Cloning is a natural or artificial process where genetically identical organisms are produced and is currently a cause for debate. This is a type of asexual reproduction because it does not involve gamete exchange between individuals.
Artificial cloning is a genetic engineering technique applied in plants and animals, linked to scientific research and it has already been tried in laboratory: Dolly the sheep was the first mammal cloned from an adult cell with success, she was born on 5th July, 1996 and it was symbol of prominence and controversy.
The process:

Since Dolly, several scientists have expressed the goal of cloning a human being, causing great discussions in the scientific society. The process of human cloning is still widely controversial and considered by many a procedure stripped of ethics and morality, but there are those who argue that human cloning is the solution to many of the problems and human diseases, among other benefits.

Pros and Cons of Human Cloning

Pros:
  • The ability to increase the time and quality of human life.
  • The possibility of creating humans who have exactly the same genetic information, enabling turning them as organ donors.
  • Help infertile couples who can't have children, even after years of infertility treatment.
  • Use of cloning technique for obtaining stem cells to restore the function of an organ or tissue.
  • Reduction or end of illegal organ trafficking.

Cons:

  • May undermine individuality and genetic variability.
  • Provoke anomalies, tumor, liver damage and reduced immunity.
  • Premature aging.
  • discrimination of cloned people, generating various psychological problems.
  • Several fetuses can die during pregnancy or shortly after birth.
